Dear
John,

I walk for my nana, Jeanne, who had Alzheimer's. She was
beautiful, glamorous and loved fancy jewelry and clothes. My middle
name is her name, too - but we shared so much more.

Our family lived under one roof and quickly discovered that caring for
someone with Alzheimer's is an exhausting, heartbreaking and
frustrating 24/7 job. Caregivers and people living with the disease
need our support. That's why I got involved with Walk to End
Alzheimer's®.

My local Walk took place a few weeks ago in Portland, and even though
it wasn't a large in-person gathering, I still got the feeling I
always do - that I'm part of a community that cares.

As a news anchor and reporter, I was honored to host our Opening and
Promise Garden Ceremony on Mainstage, an online space that offers many
of the elements of Walk day that would typically be face-to-face. As
soon as the ceremony was over, my phone was flooded with text messages
- hundreds of people were watching before they walked!

I joined my friends for a physically distanced walk at a local farm,
but I didn't feel alone. I saw so many photos on Facebook of
other participants walking in our community. I missed the big crowd,
but this felt just as powerful.

I know my Nana would be proud of me. She was an unstoppable force for
those who loved her, and I know that together, we can be an
unstoppable force for all those facing this disease. Please join me
and register today to walk in your community.
