Whenever we ask if you can help strengthen our movement and elect more Democracy Defenders in top-priority states, [[link removed]] it’s because their races make a true difference in the fight for free and fair elections.
Case in point: North Carolina, where a pro-democracy leader just held the line against an outrageous anti-voter bill.
Governor Josh Stein vetoed an extreme package of anti-voter provisions that would have made it harder for eligible people (especially military service members) to cast their ballots — and a whole lot easier for election deniers to try to overturn races they lose.
Here’s what he had to say when he vetoed the legislation: “Instead of trying to undermine our democracy to cling to power, the legislature should focus on improving people's lives and winning elections fair and square."
This is exactly why it's so important to elect pro-democracy candidates to key state-level positions.
Governor Stein was able to act as a firewall against an out-of-control legislature. And we’ve identified over 200 other candidates we’re fighting to elect this November — because they’re also ready to hold strong for democracy.
The NDRC is working overtime to help elect the candidates who will fight back against attacks on voters. But we count on dedicated supporters like you to power this work. Will you fight for fair maps and fair elections with a donation today? [[link removed]]
