Friend, Yesterday the Virginia General Assembly made one thing clear, Republicans don’t want an honest debate about any of the urgent issues facing our nation – they won’t even discuss them. A special session called by the Governor following the Virginia Beach municipal building shooting to address issues of gun control came to a screeching halt as the Republican majority held a party-line vote to adjourn the session after only 90 minutes of debate – before any bill could even be considered. This is outrageous. Rather than take seriously the complex problems surrounding gun violence, Virginia Republicans instead refused to discuss, never mind pass a single piece of legislation. All they did was refer bills under consideration to a commission for study! Even worse, nothing will even be considered until November 18, AFTER the 2019 elections! Just as in Virginia, we see the same inaction by Republican leadership in Congress. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell continues to stonewall legislation passed by the House – including bills that would expand the federal background check system for firearms purchases; secure and strengthen our elections; improve voting rights and access to the polls; secure protection for DREAMers; pay equality for women; institute campaign finance reforms; provide protections for the LGBTQ+ community; secure health care protections; and advance a host of other important issues. Instead, Mitch McConnell has been lining up Trump’s nominees for the federal courts – confirming Far Right ideologues at a breakneck pace: judges who have already proven they will stand up for corporations and the wealthy over the rights of everyone else. We must send a message to Republicans: we will no longer standby while your neglect for the urgent issues facing our nation jeopardizes the American Way for far too many. Donate now to help unseat Trump Republicans in Virginia and throughout the country>> Viriginia in 2017 got the ball rolling for big wins nationally in 2018. The lessons learned in the Virginia 2019 election will reverberate throughout the country in the 2020 general election – join us in making sure that the momentum is on our side heading into 2020. Thank you. -- Zach, PFAW
