Hey, John!

The end of summer is just around the corner, and it’s been a good one.

Obviously there’s a ton going on — both good and bad. Here’s a quick wrap up about what we’ve been up to in the other Washington and here at home.

In June, I was focused on safety and privacy for Washington families:

We pressed the administration in advance of fire season over the closure of 57 of 77 Forest Service research labs — including two in Washington state. These labs do important work that helps keep our neighbors safe during wildfires and other significant weather events. I’m not going to mince words when it comes to the folks who continue to push our safety concerns aside to line the pockets of the billionaires that have bought them out. This fight is just getting started.

I also introduced a bill alongside Reps. Casar and Holmes Norton that protects FAFSA applicants’ privacy. This bill would prohibit DHS and other federal agencies from accessing personal identifying information found on the FAFSA application. We know that ICE is not operating in good faith, and it’s so important to me that young people pursuing higher education don’t have to choose between affordable education and their own safety.

In July, we celebrated the people and natural beauty of Washington’s 6th Congressional District:

We celebrated community wins like the reopening of the Theler Wetlands Nature Center in Belfair, an incredible resource that gives families a place to explore and connect with the natural beauty of our region.

On the final day of the month, I was honored beyond words to join the people of the Quinault Indian Nation for the final stretch of the Canoe Journey. This year, tribes from across the Pacific Northwest paddled to the Nisqually Medicine Creek Potlatch, where they spent several days in celebration and togetherness. I learned so much from my Quinault neighbors as we pulled to the end and was inspired by their relentless commitment to caring for and preserving the Salish Sea for the next seven generations.

In August, we won our primary, and we’re ready to win the general and flip the House in November:

Thanks to all the hard work my team has been doing to make sure my neighbors are heard, seen, and ready to vote – we won our primary election with 58.8% of the vote despite having FOUR opponents. The race isn’t over yet, and we’ve got so many other folks to get elected. I’m raising money for tough-to-win races in swing districts across the country. We’ve got to defend the seats we have and flip the ones we can so that we can really get down to business to deliver for our neighbors in WA-06 and for families across the country — can you help me out?
