Week in Review

From Kokomo to Warsaw to Greenwood, I met with many Hoosiers across Indiana last week. Check out some of the highlights from my week below.

Visit to Lincoln Elementary School:

In Warsaw, I had the honor of presenting a police patch from the United States Capitol Police to student Drake Price at Lincoln Elementary School. Thirteen-year-old Drake has spent his life lifting up others. He has collected thousands of police badges from around the world, and he was previously honored as a Riley Champion in 2018 as he fights brain and vascular disorders. I’m so proud of Drake and the example he sets for all of us.

The Times Union covered the ceremony here.

Medal Presentation to World War II Veteran:

In South Bend, I presented the WWII Victory Medal and American Campaign Medal to Edmund Farmer at the Indiana National Guard Armed Forces Reserve Center. I was proud to be joined by Edmund’s friends, family, and members of the community who were able to see what service and sacrifice truly means. Following the medal presentation, I addressed Hoosier students interested in attending a service academy and discussed my own time at the United States Naval Academy. WNDU covered the medal presentation here.

More Good News for Hoosiers

With Hoosier farmers suffering from adverse weather conditions this planting season, I have made it a priority to make sure that those impacted receive support. In July, I sent a letter with other members of Indiana’s delegation to USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue asking for disaster designations in 88 of Indiana’s counties. Last week, the USDA awarded the majority of the counties that designation.

This designation means that Hoosiers can apply for emergency loans and risk management tools, which is welcome news because every bit of relief is needed to get our struggling farmers through this growing season. I will continue working with Governor Holcomb and the USDA on behalf of all Hoosier farmers.
