It's Back to School month! I hope you settled into your new routines.

Mason's Law

Over the past year, I worked to make our intersections safer for both drivers and pedestrians. Concerned and grieving parent, Greg Knorr, came to me with a problem with our traffic laws which allowed drivers who seriously injured others in a collision to get a small fine. On August 23, the governor signed HB 2383 <[link removed]> so Mason's Law is the law!

Fighting for You!

I am in Springfield to fight for the needs of the 79th District

Property Tax Relief

Property taxes create barriers for residents of the 79th District to the point of pushing people out of their homes. I fight against the drivers of our property taxes including voting against unfunded mandates on our schools and local governments. Help me understand your situation so I can take your concerns to Springfield to achieve true property tax relief by completing my survey. <[link removed]>

Around the District

With Session adjourned until October, I am busy making my way around the 79th District!

Talking to our Farmers

August 1st was my own personal Ag Day! In the morning, I met with our Kankakee County farmers by attending the Kankakee Farm Bureau Ag Breakfast at the Kankakee County Fair and stopped by to see the rabbits. In the evening, I joined the Will County Farm Bureau for their annual barn meeting to answer questions important to our Will County Farmers.

CSL Behring

Working on expanding our businesses in the 79th District is important to all of us. In late July, I joined CSL Behring in their groundbreaking ceremony for the new entrance on IL-50. This new entrance will alleviate traffic congestion. I continue to work for the project to for the Armour Road entrance.

Da Bears

Bears Training Camp was a huge success this year! I am proud to bring Governor Pritzker back to the 79th District to show Illinois what we have to offer and to meet our wonderful community leaders. Thank you to Olivet for hosting our Bears every year and the McCaskey family for your continued support. #GoBears

Garden of Prayer

The Garden of Prayer S.A.F.E. Camp Awards in Aroma Park were a huge success. Kankakee Police and Unity Partnership collaborated with the camp to provide academic enrichment, physical activities, field trips, and more for area youth over the summer. Due to partnering efforts, each camper left with a brand new pair of gym shoes! Thank you, everyone, for your dedication and hard work.

Local Business Spotlight

Each month, I visit a local business in the 79th District and highlight their achievements! In August, I visited Ba Da Bloom Flower Shoppe <[link removed]> in Bourbonnais. I initiated the local business spotlight to showcase the wonderful diversity of talent of our local business owners all across the 79th District!

Dresden Generating Station

The tour of Exelon's Dresden Nuclear Generating Station was impressive. Dresden generates 1,845 megawatts of Zero Carbon electricity—enough power to support the electricity needs of more than 1.5 million average American homes as well as generates hundreds of year-round jobs and over 1,000 additional jobs annually.

Mark Your Calendar!

- Pembroke Township Traveling Office Hours <[link removed]>

On September 17, I will be in Pembroke Township for a special Pembroke Traveling Office Hours!

My district staff and I will be at the Pembroke Public Library District for our traveling office hours. We will be there to answer any questions regarding policy or state agencies.

This is an excellent resource for constituents in Pembroke Township and the surrounding area that may lack the means and/or time to travel to my district office in Kankakee.

No appointment is necessary, but constituents can call my district office at (815) 523-7779 with any questions.

- Free Shredding Event <[link removed]>

On September 21, I am joining Kankakee County Treasurer Nick Africano to bring a shred truck to Bonfield Grade School for a free shredding event. The truck is available from 10 am to 12 pm. Drivers are asked to follow signs and bring their vehicles up to the truck where volunteers will be available to unload documents. No more than two boxes of shreddable documents per vehicle. The event is rain or shine.
