Friend,
I know a lot of folks are taking this long weekend to spend some much-needed time outside, and I hope you and your loved ones are able to celebrate safely.
This is such an important holiday, especially in the midst of this difficult year. Labor Day is a day to celebrate the American Labor Movement and all the workers who keep our country running, even in the middle of a pandemic.
My aunt and uncle are 30-year members of the American Postal Workers Union. When COVID-19 hit, they were classified as essential workers and have spent the last seven months making sure small businesses could still ship packages, veterans and seniors could still receive their medications, and that our elections could still carry on safely. Like millions of union members and workers before them, they’ve done their jobs amid impossible circumstances to keep our country moving forward. I’m so grateful for them -- and for all the amazing workers we celebrate today.
I am proud to stand with organized labor, and am so honored to have the support of American Postal Workers Union Local 197, the California State Association of Letter Carriers, Teamsters Joint Council 42, the San Diego Lifeguards (who are working overtime this weekend to keep everyone safe at the beach), and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union Southern California District Council. We celebrate their contributions, today and every day, and I promise to be their champion in Congress, fighting for better wages, safer conditions, and the dignity all workers deserve.
Happy Labor Day! Wear a mask, practice physical distancing, and be safe!
Warmly,
Sara
