Friend,
This Labor Day, we celebrate and thank the hard-working people in our state and across the entire country.
During this pandemic, we’ve seen where the backbone of America truly is. At a time when the coronavirus had much of the country in a panic, we depended on essential workers in hospitals and grocery stores and pharmacies and factories to put the needs and interests of their communities ahead of their own immediate health and safety. And for a period of time, there were unlimited amounts of praise being heaped onto these workers who were keeping our communities from spiraling into chaos.
This fact cannot be overstated: It was a scary time that we made it through because people were willing to go to work. Yet -- as is so often the case -- politicians' kind words for workers did not translate into meaningful policy changes.
All across the country, there is still a vast difference between the praise we lavish and the material support we give to the people who do the jobs that keep our economy running. Anyone who works 40 hours a week should be able to support their family.
To all the workers of America: thank you. You are amazing, and you deserve much more than the kind words given on this holiday. I am running to fight for you in Congress -- and I will never forget that you are the backbone of our country.
In solidarity,
Dana
