When Alyssa Alhadeff was 14 years old, her life was stolen from her at
Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida.

In the devastating aftermath of that day, her mother, Lori, transformed
unimaginable grief into relentless action. She founded Make Our Schools
Safe to fight for a simple, life-saving measure: requiring public schools
to install silent panic alert systems. In a crisis, teachers and staff
shouldn't have to scramble to make a voice call — they need a direct,
instant line to first responders with exact location details.

That vision became Alyssa’s Law.

What started as one mother’s promise in New Jersey has grown into a
powerful national movement. As of this year, 14 states — from Florida and
Texas to Washington and Illinois — have enacted versions of Alyssa’s Law.
Nearly 18 more states have introduced bills to do the same.

This is what progress looks like. It’s tangible, it saves lives, and it
proves that when young people and communities organize, we can force
lawmakers to act.

While we celebrate these crucial state-level victories, our work is far
from finished. State-by-state progress is vital, but every single student
in America deserves to be safe in their classroom, no matter what zip code
they live in.

We need to keep the pressure on statehouses across the country and demand
that Congress pass a nationwide standard. The gun lobby relies on us
getting tired, but our movement is powered by young organizers who refuse
to back down.
