John,

This Labor Day weekend, I'm thinking about my dad.

He was a pilot, which he loved, and he was the primary breadwinner for our family. But when he lost his job, our entire family felt the loss. We lost our stability.

We bounced from across the country, moving frequently, as my parents looked for stable work.

Their persistence taught me the value of hard work and dedication. But our family's situation taught me that hard work isn't always enough -- and that everyone needs a little help, especially when the chips are down.

Because our story was not ours alone.

So many families went through what we went through -- and so many are experiencing it right now.

That's why I'm proud to stand with working people and families in the U.S. House -- and that means standing with unemployed folks, too.

I'm proud to support policies like the Child Tax Credit -- which helps keep middle-class families afloat, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic -- and the Employee Retention Tax Credit -- which would provide small businesses and workers the safety net they need to get through these difficult times.

This Labor Day is unlike any other. We are facing an unprecedented unemployment crisis, and even a full-time job isn't always enough to keep a family afloat -- I am committed to changing that.

With 30 million people unemployed due to COVID-19, and so many people on the brink of poverty, it has never been more critical to have leaders who will fight for living wages, affordable childcare, and all the policies that lift people out of poverty -- and I am committed to being that leader.

So today, I'm not only thinking about my dad. I'm also thinking about our entire labor force -- both those steadily employed and those still struggling to find work.

I promise that I will fight every day for working people.

Thank you, and stay safe,

Suzan DelBene
