We all know it. We’ve heard it in school. We’ve even seen it misappropriated. I Have A Dream.
On August 28th, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous speech in our nation’s capital where over 200,000 activists, artists, civil rights leaders, and protestors gathered in support of, “letting the Black laboring masses speak!”
This event changed the course of history, and that wasn’t an accident. It required coalition building, significant investments in fundraising, and the people’s belief that Black Lives Matter. Movement makers like Dr. King, John Lewis, and Bayard Rustin toiled for years before momentum was seen on this scale.
We know that in order to make progress, it’ll require the grassroots support of folks like you. A single contribution of $10 is a tangible demonstration of support.
A recurring, monthly investment in Black Lives Matter of $10 allows us to make long term plans that will outlast the current barriers and blockers. We are planting trees in whose shade we will likely never sit. That’s okay with us, John. The investment is still worth it for generations yet to come.
The March on Washington was revolutionary because it was a televised mass mobilization in support of Black liberation. At a time when it seemed impossible, folks across the political and socioeconomic spectrum believed in our capacity to reach for the stars, grasp for hope, and hold tight to the inspiring confidence we all have in each other to achieve freedom for all.
