In honor of Labor Day, pledge to vote for a president who will strengthen America’s unions, not attack them.

Friend,

Happy Labor Day! If you (like us at NextGen) have today off work, it’s a good time to thank a union member.

The labor movement in America has a long history of pushing our country forward by winning pro-worker policies. Forty-hour workweeks, weekends, restrictions on child labor: all victories won by the labor movement. Thanks to their work, Labor Day became a federal holiday in 1894.

As we celebrate the holiday 138 years after its founding, it’s important to remember that America’s unions and our working families are as important as ever -- and they’re under attack.

Here’s what you need to know about the status quo:

- Donald Trump and the Republicans have appointed anti-labor Supreme Court justices who decimated public employee unions with 2018’s Janus decision -- and Trump has appointed 83 judges to other courts across the country who will have their lifetime appointments to make anti-union decisions.
- The president has appointed three anti-union board members to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), the agency in charge of protecting and regulating workers’ rights.
- Trump restricted eligibility for overtime pay -- costing America’s workers $1.4 billion per year.

Now here’s what you need to know about what’s possible if we elect Joe Biden:

- We can hold corporations financially responsible if they interfere with worker organizing efforts.
- Biden will appoint pro-labor, pro-worker judges and NLRB members.
- We can support so-called “gig workers,” by putting a stop to misclassifying employees as independent contractors.

More than 16 million Americans are union members -- 6 out of 10 of whom are women or people of color. Union workers earn 13% more than non-union workers performing similar work. America runs on unions. We need to elect a president who supports them. Take our pledge to vote: [link removed]

A vote for Joe Biden is a vote for unions. Period.

This Labor Day, honor the movement that gave us the day off by pledging to vote for Joe Biden.
