When our workers are strong, America is strong. This Labor Day, I hope you will join me in celebrating the achievements of the labor movement and recommit our efforts to build a country that uplifts working families.
We owe a debt to the union members who made the sacrifice of standing on the picket lines to afford us the many rights we enjoy today, like weekends, a five-day workweek, sick leave, paid vacation, healthcare benefits, pensions, workplace safety, Social Security, and more.
Today, the importance of workers’ rights is magnified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Workers are on the frontlines of their industries and helping rebuild our economy. We must work to ensure that they are safe, healthy, and treated with dignity.
In Congress, I am fighting alongside labor unions to invest in apprenticeship and vocational training, protect pensions, raise the minimum wage, and invest in good-paying jobs.
I hope that you all have a restful day, and prepare to continue standing with our brothers and sisters of the labor movement tomorrow.
The fight continues.
