Folks,

I’m not going to ask for money in this email. I just want to say thank you.

Thank you to those who keep our world turning every day. Thank you to the factory workers, construction workers, grocery store clerks, farmers, mechanics, food service and hospitality workers, trash collectors, health care professionals, civil servants, and everyone else whose labor allows us to live in peace and prosperity — especially the essential workers who risk their lives to keep us safe during this pandemic.

Today we also recognize and remember those who fought for labor rights in America. They fought — often against insurmountable odds, private police, and threats to their families and employment — to earn fair wages and hours, better working conditions, benefits, and more that we still enjoy today.

But the fight for labor rights is not over. Republicans continue to attack and weaken unions. Too many Americans work two or more jobs to support their families. And the federal minimum wage has not risen in ten years, despite increases in costs of living across the country.

Here’s my promise to you: I will always fight for those who keep our world turning. I promise to do all I can to ensure that every working American can not only put food on the table, but spend time with their families, support their kids through school, take care of their health, and thrive.

Happy Labor Day,

John Hickenlooper
