Happy Labor Day, Friend!
Whether you're working or off enjoying the fruits of your labor, remember to thank the labor movement for safer conditions, better wages, and the ability to demand fair treatment.
Sick leave, workers' compensation, pensions, weekends, lunch breaks, and the 40-hour workweek didn't come about by happenstance.
All of our workplace standards and protections are the product of organized labor. Unions built a movement organizing against corruption, greed, and dangerous labor practices to achieve better working conditions and improve our society as a whole.
In the past year, unions have continued to demand protections for federal employees, fair wages, health care -- and personal protective equipment and hazard pay for the essential workers who have held the country together through the COVID-19 pandemic.
I stood in solidarity with Colorado labor unions when the Trump administration tried to harm their collective bargaining power. And I will continue to stand with them as they fight for fairer, safer, and more equitable working conditions.
While you take today to rest and (hopefully) flip some burgers outside, I hope you are able to reflect on all of the ways unions have positively impacted your life, too.
Thank you to our labor leaders, Happy Labor Day!
