Folks,
Today, I'm wishing you and your loved ones a restful and safe Labor Day.
Usually, our team would be spending today marching in the Naperville Labor Day parade to celebrate our friends in labor for giving us the 40-hour work week, promoting fair wages, and improving the quality of life for working Americans.
But in the midst of a global pandemic that has wreaked havoc on our communities and our economies, I hope we will also take this time to remember that the struggle for better labor protections is far from over -- and to renew our commitment to fighting for the safety and wellbeing of our workers.
In Congress, I have a responsibility to ensure our government takes action to put American workers and families first in these turbulent times.
That means demanding Senate Republicans pass The Heroes Act to guarantee workplace protections for those on the front line of this pandemic and relief for our small business community and local governments.
That means passing the Paycheck Guarantee Act to end mass layoffs, keep workers enrolled in employer-sponsored benefits, and prevent businesses from being forced to close permanently.
That means fighting back against President Trump's attacks on our postal workers and on life-saving programs like Social Security and Medicare.
Far too many are hurting -- there's no time to waste. We must act.
In solidarity,
Sean Casten
