PFLAG Connects

Dear John:

It's Labor Day, but you can still connect through PFLAG's pillars of Support, Education, and Advocacy!

Cultivating Respect: Safe Schools for All

It's back to school time, and that means safe school work--including creating safe virtual spaces for students--is top of mind. This is a great time to revisit Cultivating Respect: Safe Schools for All, our safe schools publication (available for download and order in both English and Spanish). With tons of great links and information, you can help support parents and educators in creating safe learning environments for ALL students, including LGBTQ+ youth. Get your copy today! (And ICYMI: Be sure to check out last week's Something to Talk About Live, where we discussed creating safe school environments for LGBTQ+ youth!)

Three Steps to Being a Better Advocate for Voter Protection (While You’re Stuck at Home)

Just because you’re staying in doesn’t mean your voter protection efforts should stop! So, stay safe and take these steps to engage:

  1. Learn: Take the time to learn more about voter suppression, intimidation, and disenfranchisement and what you can do about it. Read Block the Vote: Voter Suppression in 2020 and Purges: A Growing Threat to the Right to Vote to get started.
  2. Watch: Watch this video from Now This News titled How Your Vote Might Be Blocked in 2020 and be sure to check out the June PFLAG Academy On-Demand session PFLAG Votes 2020: Our Right and Our Responsibility.
  3. Share: Use emails, texts, and social media to share what you’d do if you were told you could not vote on Election Day. Try something like “I know what to do if I’m told I will not be permitted to vote when I cast my ballot, do you? This video from PFLAG can help: vimeo.com/393477999!” Or share our voter protection resources, using the hashtags #PFLAGVotes2020 and #2020VotePlan.

PFLAG Votes

In case you missed it, check out PFLAG VOTES, a new short film about why PFLAGers are voting--and how they are making their plans to do so!

PFLAGers are voting for the lives and well being of themselves and their LGBTQ+ kids and loved ones, and they are ready to get to the polls with their voting plans. So check out the film, share it with others, and then visit pflag.org/2020voteplan to make YOUR #2020VotePlan!

Something to Talk About...Live!

Join PFLAG National live this Thursday, September 10th at 4:30 PM ET/1:30 PM where we'll be discussing the article, "378,000 Trans People Could Face Voter Disenfranchisement in November," from New Now Next, by writer Kate Sosin. Our special guests this week? The PFLAG National staff--yup, nearly all of us--talking about all things voting!

You can watch the broadcast live on Facebook, YouTube, or Twitter

For more information, visit http://www.straightforequality.org/something-to-talk-about-live-september-10-2020! (And while you're waiting, also check out pflag.org/2020voteplan, to get started on your OWN #2020voteplan, so you can share it with us during the broadcast!)

Remember: We're here to help. Find us all at pflag.org/about/our-people.

Let’s stay safe, stay healthy--and stay connected.

We're here for you,
Team PFLAG National
