Folks, today we celebrate the achievements of the labor movement and the working families that are the foundation of our country.
We all look forward to this three-day weekend -- but it's only thanks to the labor movement that we have weekends at all.
Weekends, lunch breaks, 40-hour work weeks, paid vacation, even Social Security -- we all owe so much to the unions that fought for dignified work.
Now, it's incumbent upon us to carry on this legacy. I'm committed to raising the minimum wage, ensuring access to paid leave, launching innovative training programs, and reinvesting in American supply chains to ensure that our manufacturing industries are stronger than ever. It's my honor to stand with working families and fight hard in Congress for Michigan's manufacturers every day.
I hope you take a moment today to reflect on the labor movement, especially at a moment when so many industries need our support in recovering from the pandemic. Together, we can reignite our economy and improve working conditions for millions, carrying on the hard work of past generations.
For now, I hope today brings you rest, relaxation, and a peaceful transition to fall.
