This Labor Day may be different than most years – no parades, no in-person celebrations. Yet this year in particular, please join me in honoring the historic sacrifices of American workers. Labor Day traditionally honors the men, women, and children who put their lives on the line to fight for the rights we have today: the 40-hour work-week and eight-hour workday; paid sick leave, holidays, overtime and vacation time; Social Security and retirement benefits; unemployment insurance; and so much more.

John,

This Labor Day may be different than most years – no parades, no in-person celebrations. Yet this year in particular, please join me in honoring the historic sacrifices of American workers.

Labor Day traditionally honors the men, women, and children who put their lives on the line to fight for the rights we have today: the 40-hour work-week and eight-hour workday; paid sick leave, holidays, overtime and vacation time; Social Security and retirement benefits; unemployment insurance; and so much more.

While we owe a debt to the workers who fought for these rights, this year let’s also thank the workers who are continuing to put it all on the line despite the global pandemic. Let’s take a day to thank the workers in your life and in your community who continued to show up despite the difficult conditions. Who continued to show up despite having to cobble together make-shift childcare plans. Who continued to show up despite being afraid. Who continued to show up because they were essential. Who continued to show up because it was the right thing to do.

Thank you heroes” is not enough. We must continue the fight to ensure workers are safe in their workplaces, make a living wage, and can organize and collectively bargain. If this pandemic has shown anything, it has shown us that it is working people that hold up our economy and our society.

In Congress, I am proud to advocate on behalf of Connecticut's working families and ensure our economy works for ALL of us. There is so much more work to do, and I am ready to continue, together.

Happy Labor Day to you and your family.
