Additional Reading from MarketBeat NVIDIA’s Blockbuster Quarter May Still Undersell How Big the AI Buildout IsReported by Thomas Hughes. Published: 8/27/2026.
Key Points- NVIDIA’s second-quarter results showed accelerating AI demand, with revenue more than doubling and data center sales rising even faster.
- NVIDIA’s profit growth and roughly $26 billion in quarterly capital returns remain central to the long-term bull case.
- NVIDIA’s expanded AWS partnership, Vera Rubin ramp and fiscal 2028 growth outlook suggest the AI spending cycle still has room to run.
- Special Report: Forget SpaceX. Buy the company Musk can't replace.
NVIDIA’s (NASDAQ: NVDA) Q2 fiscal year 2027 (FY2027) results extend the company’s impressive growth trend—no small feat for a company whose size and expansion make its peers pale in comparison. Following high-double-digit growth in Q1 FY2027, the Q2 results reflect an acceleration driven by an ecosystem of AI labs, hyperscalers, and supercomputers. Together, these trends point to sustained, long-term growth and strength in the coming quarters.
The simple story is that NVIDIA’s growth peak remains unknown and far out of sight as the AI boom continues to expand. The more important story, however, is monetization. As the leading beneficiary, NVIDIA monetizes AI like no other company, selling hardware, software, and services across a full stack of consumers, industries, and verticals—and doing so profitably.
Marc Chaikin, founder of Chaikin Analytics, is sharing a strategy he calls 'Sell This, Buy That' - a way to move out of overpriced AI stocks before the tech trade breaks down and into lesser-known names with real potential to challenge the Mag 7.
One pick he calls 'an upgrade to Tesla stock' is a little-known company that just inked a partnership with Nvidia, positioning it ahead of Tesla in the autonomous vehicle race. Get the name, ticker, and full Hotlist before markets open Profits and the capital returns they enable are central to why NVIDIA’s stock price is rising and could continue to rise. Surging sales, compounded by demand for higher-margin, next-generation technologies, are driving significant margin leverage. Key takeaways from the Q2 release include wider gross and operating margins; year-over-year increases of 124%, 126%, and 128% in operating income, net income, and GAAP diluted earnings per share, respectively; and a cash balance that more than doubled from the start of the fiscal year.

NVIDIA Turns AI Demand Into Cash Flow
Improving profitability is reflected in NVIDIA’s Q2 cash flow, balance sheet, and capital returns. Stronger cash flow more than doubled the company’s year-to-date cash balance, despite aggressive investments and the acceleration of capital returns at the end of the previous fiscal year.
Capital returns are no longer token amounts, topping $25 billion for the quarter, including dividends and share buybacks. The dividend remains small but is on track for sustained annual increases, while share buybacks reduced the share count by about 1% on average over the past year and added leverage to already growing shareholder value. Shareholder equity, one measure of shareholder value, grew more than 50% and will likely continue expanding as growth and cash flow increase.
NVIDIA’s Value Deepens Without Any Stock Price Movement
In terms of valuation, NVIDIA’s value was further strengthened by the Q2 release. The stock traded at approximately 24 times the current-year earnings outlook ahead of the release—a discount to historical norms—and the valuation became even more compelling after the Q2 results and guidance.
Looking ahead, the value proposition deepens the further out you look, with the 10-year forecast likely to materially underestimate the business and value NVIDIA at pennies on the dollar. In this scenario, NVIDIA only needs to execute its strategy and grow into its forecasts, and all signs suggest it is executing at a high level.
Updates within the Q2 release highlight an ecosystem full of advancements, with partnerships deepening, new products launching, and NVIDIA’s moat widening. One key detail is that Vera Rubin production is ramping toward full production, with several hyperscalers and neoclouds already running the systems. In this environment, analysts will likely maintain their bullish outlook, reinforcing the potential for share-price gains.
As it stands, late-August analyst targets imply nearly 50% upside at the consensus, while the Street-high $500 target suggests substantially more room for gains if NVIDIA continues converting AI infrastructure demand into earnings growth.
NVIDIA’s Pullback Doesn’t Break the Bull Case
NVIDIA’s stock pulled back following the release, as expected. The stock often retreats because of high expectations and a sell-the-news atmosphere. More importantly, however, is the upward stock-price trend: NVIDIA tends to pull back and then rebound to higher highs. The trend is supported by robust market demand, as indicated by institutional data.
Institutional data shows roughly 65% ownership in this widely held stock, with institutions accumulating shares ahead of the release. The trailing 12-month buy-to-sell balance is approximately $2.5 to $1, providing a steady tailwind and limiting downside movement. NVIDIA’s stock price might fall, but only so far before institutions begin scooping up shares.
Catalysts for the rally include new deals, acquisitions, and long-term guidance. New deals include an expanded partnership with Amazon’s (NASDAQ: AMZN) AWS for an additional 2 million NVIDIA GPUs, effectively tripling the previous plan. Meanwhile, NVIDIA’s broader investment activity adds another layer to the AI ecosystem story. Reports also indicate that NVIDIA is closing in on a Hugging Face acquisition. Hugging Face is an open-source platform for AI development, and the acquisition would give NVIDIA an entry point into the open-source community. It also signals to Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ: AMD) that its up-and-comer positioning is far from secure.
The signal the market should focus on, however, is the long-term guidance. NVIDIA forecast approximately 70% revenue growth in fiscal year 2028, marking the seventh year of AI-inspired hypergrowth and exceeding consensus estimates by more than 20%. This is yet another indication of the market’s fundamental misunderstanding of AI, hyperscale supercomputers, and the future of technology. The AI boom is still going strong and will continue to resonate throughout the tech ecosystem and the broader economy for years to come. NVIDIA looks like the number one play. |
