Friends & Neighbors,
For many of us, Labor Day means barbecues and friends gathering outside for a final "hurrah" during the last long holiday weekend before summer officially ends — but with the pandemic this year, Labor Day Weekend is likely to look quite different. However, it's just as important as ever (if not more so) to honor our laborers and our workforce.
America is known for its strong work ethic and thriving workforce, which is why so many people come here in search of opportunity. For decades, labor unions and workers' rights groups have fought to make sure that employees in our country receive the rights they deserve — things like reasonable wages, safe working environments, and medical coverage.
Now, with the devastating impacts of COVID-19, these protections are more pressing than ever. That's why, during this pandemic, I've continued to advocate on behalf of our nation's workers to ensure critical benefits such as safe job conditions, paid medical leave, healthcare coverage, unemployment aid, and more through meaningful legislation. I've championed bills like my Pandemic Heroes Compensation Act, my Student Loan Forgiveness for Frontline Health Workers Act, and other federal relief packages to support our incredible essential workers who have put their own health at risk to provide for the American people and keep our country moving forward through this tough time.
I will continue fighting for workers' rights and employee protections, both during and after this pandemic, because I know how crucial every single hardworking American is to this country's survival.
To each and everyone one of you who has contributed to help build this nation's workforce, thank you for your contributions, and I hope that you enjoy a day off today!
Happy Labor Day!
