Team,
This pandemic has changed so much, but while it may change how I'm commemorating Labor Day — it can't change my commitment to our unions and working families.
Today we recognize the sacrifices of workers who fought tooth and nail to secure labor rights for working Americans. Social Security, the 40-hour workweek, paid sick leave, and even weekends — all of these protections and benefits wouldn't exist without the labor movement.
We also can't forget the essential workers who risk their health every day right now: postal workers delivering mail, first responders keeping our communities safe, grocery clerks feeding our communities, and health care workers fighting this pandemic on the frontlines.
We still have a long way to go to ensure all workers are treated with dignity and can provide for their families. No matter what, I'll always push to build an economy that empowers workers and gives them the rights and respect they deserve. As long as I am in Congress, I will fight alongside unions and working families to raise the minimum wage, defend collective bargaining, and protect Social Security.
Stay safe, and Happy Labor Day.
Thank you,
Chris Pappas
