Max Engling Delivers Clear Victory at HobNob Debate

Indianapolis, IN – Max Engling delivered a clear-cut victory at last night's Indy Chamber HobNob Debate, demonstrating he is the only candidate ready to serve as Indiana's next secretary of state.

Throughout the debate, Engling drew a sharp contrast through his election oversight experience, small-business background and focused agenda for the office: protecting election integrity, cracking down on business filing fraud, increasing transparency and making the secretary of state's office more efficient and accountable to Hoosier taxpayers.

Nowhere was that contrast more evident than in his exchanges with Beau Bayh, who came across throughout the night as an out-of-touch elitist more comfortable dodging tough questions than giving Hoosiers straight answers about how he'd run the office.

The clearest example came on citizenship verification. When asked about the SAVE America Act, Bayh refused to support its citizenship verification requirements. For a candidate seeking to become Indiana's chief elections officer, refusing to back basic citizenship verification should be disqualifying.

“Max Engling showed Hoosiers why he’s the clear choice for secretary of state,” said Indiana Republican Party Chairwoman Lana Keesling. “He has the experience and a real plan to protect election integrity, cut red tape and make the office work better for Hoosiers. Supporting basic citizenship verification shouldn’t be a difficult commitment for someone running to oversee Indiana’s elections.”

Wednesday night's debate underscored the choice before Hoosiers this November. While his opponents offered vague promises, Engling brought relevant election experience, firsthand understanding of Indiana businesses and clear priorities for election integrity, government efficiency and transparency.
