I am reaching out to ask you to make a contribution to support Democrats
running for the South Carolina state legislature. Before you scroll away,
please give me a chance to explain why this matters.

A lot of people dismiss South Carolina as a red state. Frankly, national
Democrats have gotten into a bad habit of writing off places that are
tough to win.

If we want to rebuild our party and take back power for working people, we
have to be willing to take our message into less friendly territory. And
we have to build infrastructure and a bench of candidates who can make the
case.

I know how important this is because, before I ran for Congress, I served
in the Connecticut State House. At 25, I defeated a Republican incumbent
who had held that state house seat for 14 years. And at 29, I flipped a
seat in the Connecticut State Senate.

South Carolina Democrats are trying to break the Republican supermajority,
and one of the most flippable districts is SC House District 116, where
Clay Middleton is our Democratic nominee.

These are the kinds of races where a little money goes an extremely long
way, and the work statehouse candidates do can help other Democrats up and
down the ticket for years to come.

U.S. House majority would look right now if Democrats had control of just
a few more state houses.

Republicans, at Trump’s demand, used their power in state houses to redraw
congressional maps mid-decade. They didn’t think they could win a fair
fight, so they rigged the system.

The only way we can stop that in the future is by investing in work like
the South Carolina House Democratic caucus is doing.
