Dear John,

Applications are now open for the Fall 2026 Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Support Fund [[link removed]].

Supported by funding from the Wells Fargo Foundation, Prosperity Now will award grants of $5,000 to $20,000 to IRS-certified VITA sites and organizations that directly support VITA operations nationwide. Funding may support staffing and volunteer needs, technology and equipment, outreach, language access, service delivery, accessibility, and other costs associated with preparing for and providing VITA services for the 2027 filing season.

Applications are open through Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

Who Should Apply?

Eligible applicants must:

Be an IRS-certified VITA site or an organization that directly supports VITA operations.

Plan to deliver VITA services during the 2027 filing season.

Organizations of all sizes and from across the United States are eligible to apply.

Grant awards range from $5,000 to $20,000 per organization. Review the full RFP for complete eligibility requirements, allowable uses of funds, and application details.

Applied in Spring 2026?

If your organization applied during the spring 2026 VITA Support Fund round, it will automatically be considered, and you do not need to submit a new application.

If your funding request, use of funds, service plan staffing approach, projected reach, or other material information approach has changed, you may submit an updated application by September 8, 2026. Prosperity Now will use your most recent submission.

VITACon 2026

Awardees are strongly encouraged to participate in Prosperity Now’s VITACon on October 6, 2026, [[link removed]] in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The gathering will bring together VITA practitioners and partners from across the country for peer learning, training, resource sharing, and preparation for the 2027 filing season.

Organizations may include reasonable VITACon travel and participation expenses in their proposed use of grant funds. Prosperity Now will also release updated VITA Train curriculum materials for the 2027 filing season at VITACon.
