John,

On Monday, the Supreme Court handed down an unsigned 10-page order allowing parts of President Trump’s executive order on mail-in voting to move forward.

While this decision isn't the final word on the legality of his directives, it immediately injects new uncertainty and hurdles into the upcoming midterm elections.

Under this order, federal agencies like Homeland Security and the Postal Service could be tasked with screening state voter rolls and enforcing new requirements on mail ballot envelopes — diverting time and resources from states as election preparation is underway.

Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote strong dissents against this decision. Justice Jackson rightly noted that the court's approach "needlessly injects chaos and uncertainty into the upcoming midterm elections."

The Constitution gives the states and Congress — not the Executive Branch — the responsibility to manage voting procedures. But when the executive branch tries to exert control over our ballot box, the most effective tool we have to restore checks and balances is our legislative power.

That starts with who we elect to Congress.

As the Red to Blue Co-Chair for the DCCC, I have been focused on recruiting, supporting, and electing candidates who will flip the House and protect access to the ballot for every eligible voter.

If we want to defend our democracy and stop these partisan attacks on voting rights, we need a House majority that will pass real protections into federal law.

Court battles will continue in the days ahead, but our task remains clear: we have to win key seats across the country and take back the majority this November. Will you chip in $10, or whatever you can, today to help us support key Red-to-Blue candidates and flip the House? [[link removed]]

We have a lot of work ahead of us before Election Day, but when we focus on the work, organize our communities, and support strong candidates, we win.

Thank you for standing with us.
