Welcome to A Maloney Minute — a monthly email newsletter that crams everything Carolyn’s been getting done into one quick, readable minute!

Here's what Carolyn has been up to recently:

Saving the USPS from DeJoy and Trump:
Carolyn’s top priority has been the pressing issue of keeping the United States Postal Service intact after Trump’s Postmaster General Louis Dejoy has made several unwarranted and detrimental changes to the organization’s operations. After the House passed her Delivering for America Act last week (returning from recess for a rare Saturday vote), Carolyn held an Oversight Committee hearing where she let DeJoy know — she was ready and willing to issue a subpoena for the documents Congress needs to hold the Administration accountable. And she did. Watch Carolyn's most recent MSNBC interview with Stephanie Ruhle for an update: [www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaHqbrzFrLM]

Ensuring a Fair and Accurate Census Count:
Donald Trump has been attacking the census ever since he took office. First, he tried to add an illegal question about citizenship as a clear strategy of scaring undocumented migrants from completing the survey. Then, he tried to have undocumented individuals completely discounted from the census. Both of these actions are illegal, as the Constitution clearly states the census must count every person living in America. But he wouldn’t give up, and most recently has shortened the census deadline. Carolyn is doing everything she can to ensure a fair and accurate census count including pushing for her legislation, The Fair and Accurate Census Act, and educating the public on these issues and encouraging them to complete the census to ensure that they are counted in critical federal funding. And earlier this week, Carolyn joined members of the community and other officials for a census march to ensure that everyone is counted. Make sure to sign your name to the pledge that you will complete the census! >>

Investigating Trump’s Fraud:
It’s no secret that Trump and his administration have acted above the law on more than one occasion, so Carolyn has worked hard this past week overseeing any misconduct and fraudulent activity by elected officials. She requested an investigation following complaints that there have been acts of retaliation targeted against U.S. Army Lieutenant Colonels Alexander S. Vindman and his brother Yevgeny Vindman due to their protected disclosures of inappropriate actions within the administration, including Trump’s infamous call with the Ukrainian President. Then on Thursday, she joined several other members of Congress to open yet another investigation regarding the suspicious appointments of Chad Wolf as Acting Secretary of Homeland Security and Ken Cuccinelli as the Senior Official Performing the Duties of Deputy Secretary. Lastly, towards the end of last week, Carolyn also released a memo regarding the 2019 subpoena of Mazars USA, LLP subpoena - laying out a case for how Donald Trump could end up in jail.

Improving Our NY-12 Community:
Here in New York’s 12th District, Carolyn continues to make major accomplishments for our city’s residents. A couple of weeks ago, Carolyn joined seven other New York representatives in urging the rehire of 2,800 CUNY employees that were laid off due to the pandemic. The CARES Act was specifically written to include protections for public universities, so she’s determined to make sure the CARES Act relief funding provided to CUNY is used to cover these employees’ payroll. Carolyn was also part of the exciting new connection between two major NY-12 neighborhoods. And, NYC Ferry has just opened a new route connecting Astoria and Manhattan, both neighborhoods Carolyn represents. This new connection will help improve the commute and transportation options for so many New York residents, and we couldn’t be more grateful for her hard work at improving and connecting our communities.
