I’m writing to you today both somber and hopeful: I am somber because I know that even on Labor Day weekend, our essential workers aren’t catching a break. I have hope because I know that when I am elected, I can fight for our rights — and yours — in Washington, D.C. |

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to take hard-working people’s lives, educators across the country are telling their elected leaders that we can reopen schools #OnlyWhenItsSafe. (News flash: It’s not safe yet.)
In states where public schools have opened, like in Florida, Georgia and Texas, school workers and students are getting sick. Usually these schools are underfunded, poorly ventilated and don’t have the right number of healthcare professionals on site.
This feels too familiar: Right here in Delaware, poultry workers were forced to work in close quarters for long hours. At just one plant, more than half of the 300 workers had COVID.
I promise to always stand up for people’s right to a safe workplace. This weekend, we’re raising $9,150 so I can advocate for our country’s essential workers from the Senate floor. We’re just $5,318 from that goal. |
