When you're running in one of the most competitive districts in the nation against a right-wing challenger backed by ultra-conservative PACs and powerful Republican politicians like Ted Cruz, every dollar counts.

Because in the age of Citizens United -- in which outside groups can spend unlimited and undisclosed amounts of dark money to try and sway elections their way -- the outcome of races like this one often comes down to who has the money on their side.
