Proposition 113 is on the ballot in Colorado this November. A YES vote on Prop 113 supports the National Popular Vote, which guarantees the Presidency to the candidate who wins the most votes in all 50 states. Last year, Governor Polis signed the National Popular Vote into law. On November 3rd, Coloradans will be asked to approve the decision of the Legislature and the Governor.
FIRST: FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver revealed the likelihood of President Trump winning a second term despite losing the popular vote -- again.
THEN: The Washington Post published an op-ed in response, with this headline:
Here’s an important excerpt from this piece:
[Trump’s] only chance for victory — and it’s a good one — is to once again assemble the right combination of state wins to get him 270 electoral votes. Which would mean that in half the presidential elections of the last 20 years, the vote loser wound up winning the White House.
In other words, it’s not just an unusual occurrence, something that was always possible but we seldom had to worry too much about. It’s now a regular feature of presidential elections.
John, the Electoral College is broken. It is outdated, undemocratic, and in dire need of repair.
This is a system that silences voters and does not reflect the will of the people -- and one that can only be fixed by enacting a National Popular Vote.
Under a National Popular Vote, every vote for president would count equally -- no matter where you live or who you vote for, and the candidate with the most votes would win -- every time.
SO NOW: The National Popular Vote is on the ballot in Colorado this November as Proposition 113, and we must get every voter in Colorado to vote YES so we can pass it.
If you’re ready to fix the Electoral College and ensure the candidate with the most votes wins the presidency, pitch in any amount so we can pass Proposition 113, the National Popular Vote, on November 3rd:
