Dear Supporter,
Over the last two months, we’ve written to ask for your thoughts on a wide range of issues. From Covid-19 and our relationship with China, to our democracy and the ways in which we’re governed. Tens of thousands of you have been taking part in our Sunday Surveys and we’re grateful to you all.
Two weeks ago we sent out a survey asking for your views on law and order and it proved to be the most popular survey we’ve commissioned so far. It’s clear, just from the response rate, that you consider this to be a huge area of concern; a view that is supported by the responses that you gave.
90% of you feel that custodial sentences are far too lenient and 85% of you feel that some groups are treated more leniently by the police than others. An overwhelming 97% of you think that whilst on duty, police officers should be banned from displaying items or participating in gestures that show support for a political movement.
Most striking of all was your response to us asking if you had faith in our criminal justice system; a huge 83% of you said you didn’t with 77% of you saying you feel less safe now than you did ten years ago.
Our intention was to send out our last survey to you this week, but instead we’ve decided to commission a Sunday Survey Special, focusing on local government ahead of local elections next year. You’ll find the link for it below.
As before, the survey won't take you more than a couple of minutes to complete and we will share the results with you when the survey closes next week. Please remember that each link will only work once, so to ensure your answers are recorded, please make sure you complete and submit your survey in one visit.
