When I moved to Oregon in 1987, right off an Amtrak train from the East Coast to rainy Eugene, I was excited about a new place to explore and find new friends. As I settled in, I found much more — a place where I could truly be myself. I fell in love with the beauty of the state and the openness of the people — and found a community I could call home.

After going back to school and graduating from the University of Oregon, working in politics was not on my radar. My journey eventually led me to nonprofit advocacy work at Oregon Food Bank and then Children First for Oregon — fighting hunger, supporting financial stability for more people, and strengthening state policies around childcare for working families and healthcare for kids.

It was through that work — listening to Oregonians, working on issues our communities are facing, and helping create real solutions — that I realized I could make an even bigger difference through public service. That led me to nearly 15 years of service in the Oregon legislature.

As Governor, my focus remains the same: listening to Oregonians, tackling our biggest challenges, and building a stronger, brighter future for all of us. [[link removed]]

It’s my honor to not just work for you, but with you . With your support and partnership, I’ve worked to lower costs, address our housing crisis, strengthen schools, expand mental health care, and defend Oregon from Trump’s dangerous agenda.
