Friend, I've taught my sons to try and get good grades in school -- and I always strived to do well myself.

However, there are a few occasions when I don't want to see a good grade. Namely, political scorecards for right-wing special interest groups. So I'm proud to announce that I got an F...from the NRA.

I'm guessing they don't like that I co-sponsored an assault weapons ban last year. Or that I voted for universal background checks. Or that I've fought the gun lobby's agenda dating back to my days in the Virginia legislature.

I'll gladly fail the NRA's test every day of the week. But the same can't be said of my opponent, who received an A on this same scorecard.

Northern Virginians do not deserve a representative who carries water for the gun lobby and fails to take action to protect our communities.

So with less than 60 days to go now before the election, I want to ensure that we can make our case to voters -- and that groups like the NRA can't buy the election for my opponent.
