Dear friend,

Among the most powerful lessons we continue to learn is that the struggles we face are always interconnected; that none of our communities work alone. That’s why this week we’re featuring a series of events that highlight the ties across issues.

In the same way that immigrant rights are inextricably linked to environmental justice, so too is the struggle for democracy intertwined with the fight for religious liberty, and the rights of political prisoners cannot be separated from the rights of the poor.

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. named this as the triple evils of poverty, racism, and militarism that could not be fought separately. So, as those in power try to impress upon our communities that their struggles are their own, that our plights are results of personal failing, it is more important than ever to build coalitions across historic lines of difference, to declare our solidarity across struggle, and to organize around the oppression of our neighbors.

Because none of us are free until all of us are.

Join the Freedom Church of the Poor tonight at 6:00 PM ET/ 5:00 PM Ct/ 3:00 PM PT for a powerful Black August service honoring the freedom struggles of yesterday and today.

Free Them All. Now. lifts up the lives and legacies of political prisoners while connecting the liberation movements of the past to today’s urgent fight against the criminalization, detention, and separation of our immigrant loved ones.

Featuring Min. Ciara Taylor, Ruth Jeannoel of Famn Saj, Inc., Abe Paulos of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration, and Min. Arelis Figueroa of La Iglesia Del Pueblo.

Together, we gather in the tradition of Black August to remember those who have been imprisoned for the freedom of our people, honor those continuing the struggle, and proclaim a simple truth: Free them all. Now.

People should be able to go to church without wondering whether ICE will be waiting outside. Parents should be able to go to work and children should be able to go to school without fearing that their family will be separated. Our Haitian neighbors should be able to live, work, worship, and thrive in their communities.

Pastor Viles is asking the movement and people of faith across the country to stand with Springfield. We need to answer that call.

GreenFaith Pilgrimage

Please join GreenFaith and partners on August 28th for a multi-faith pilgrimage as we sing, pray, and march in solidarity with New Yorkers most impacted by the intersecting crises of climate and immigration injustice. We march to raise awareness about the evils of HR 1 (the so-called One Big Beautiful Bill Act), which has given billions of dollars to ICE to continue their reign of terror as they round up hardworking people and their families -- billions of dollars that could be used to provide healthcare, improve schools, and fund green jobs.

How Faith Leaders Can Protect Democracy

Throughout the evening, we'll teach songs that inspire courage and solidarity, strengthen our efforts to defend voting rights, stand with immigrant communities facing attacks, and equip us to protect one another through the power of collective song. The Immorality of Inaction

Join us on Friday, September 18, at the historic Riverside Church in New York City for “Immorality of Inaction: Voicing Truth on Climate.” This gathering will bring people together to give voice to what we know to be true about the catastrophic consequences of allowing the pillage and pollution of the Earth—and what we are called to do about it.

We have the scientific knowledge, technology and financial resources to decrease fossil fuel emissions, restore integrity, protect communities and prevent ecosystem collapse. Yet we don’t. In the face of shifting political winds and corporate profit-seeking, our systems have us ever more locked into a trajectory of self-destruction. The ones that suffer first and worst are the most vulnerable among us. We cannot be silent. Through speech, story and song, we will invigorate and empower a unified moral community voice. Let’s build the public pressure needed to move from a culture of denial and delay to one of decisive action.
