Donald Trump’s disastrous war with Iran has resulted in a nearly nine-month extended deployment of more than 5,000 troops aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln in the Middle East.
Recent reports described appallingly bad conditions, including moldy showers and rotten food, leading to multiple sailors attempting to actually jump off the aircraft carrier . Since departing San Diego in November 2025, the ship has made one single day port-stop, on a mission that was supposed to end three months ago.
I wrote a letter to Pete Hegseth asking for information on the inventory of food, medical supplies, and other critical resources for the sailors and Marines — and for clarification on exactly when the USS Lincoln would be relieved by another aircraft carrier.
Thousands of military families have expressed their rightful anger towards the Trump administration over the horrible conditions onboard, and have been met with contempt. Trump and Hegseth claim all of these families are lying about their family members!
When Trump was asked whether the USS Lincoln had been at sea for too long, he told reporters: “No, not nearly long enough.”
All of this is unacceptable. Our servicemembers have bravely volunteered to serve and sacrifice on all of our behalf, and we cannot repay them with endless deployments and appalling conditions.
Bottom line: the Trump administration got us into this war with no plan to get us out, and now our servicemembers are paying the price.
