Dear John,
We just received some fantastic breaking news in our ongoing effort to protect religious schools from oppression at the hands of increasingly hostile government officials.
Late yesterday, we won a key victory allowing Calvary Christian School of Excellence in Cameron County, Texas to reopen for in-person classes next week.
Cameron County officials had initially issued an order prohibiting the school from reopening, but quickly relented after swift action from First Liberty pointing out that such an order was inconsistent with the Constitution, federal and state law.
This comes on the heels of a separate victory in Texas for Laguna Madre Christian Academy, which reopened this past week after facing a similar unlawful order until First Liberty intervened and set county officials straight.
Now, all eyes turn to California—the turbulent “western front” of the fight for religious freedom this year, under the thumb of Governor Gavin Newsom’s numerous mandates.
Our client, St. Abraham’s Classical Christian Academy in Santa Cruz County, CA, plans to safely reopen early next week following proper state health guidelines.
What’s yet to be determined is whether these California officials will step in and interfere with those plans—which could include shutting them down. We’ll be keeping a sharp eye on the situation, so stay tuned!
In the meantime, you can support our efforts to protect religious freedom in our nation’s schools by donating today. We can only keep winning victories like these with your support.
Thank you for standing with us in this historic time!
Gratefully, Kelly
