After a devastating hit to the Bahamas, Hurricane Dorian is moving toward Florida, Georgia, the Carolinas, Virginia, and the rest of the Eastern seaboard. Our thoughts are with our members and their grantees in these communities as they prepare for the storm and its effects.

As you think about how you can learn about the storm or help those who have been affected by it, the Center for Disaster Philanthropy recommends these five resources:
* The Center’s Hurricane Dorian disaster profile can be found here ([link removed]) , which provides updates on the storm as well as information on the areas of greatest need.

* The Center has launched the CDP 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season Recovery Fund ([link removed]) to support communities that will be affected by Hurricane Dorian. This fund focuses on medium- and long-term recovery, with the understanding that individuals and communities will need the support of private philanthropy for months or years as they navigate the road to recovery.

* Center VP Regine Webster wrote this blog ([link removed]) on effective giving strategies. It offers advice on where, when and how to allocate your philanthropic dollars.

* This new blog ([link removed]) on Hurricane Dorian has suggestions for funders both in and outside the path of the storm.

* The Disaster Philanthropy Playbook ([link removed]) offers a host of approaches and strategies that can be helpful to community foundations, regional associations, corporations, institutional foundations and donors of all types.
