I'm Michigan State Senator Mallory McMorrow. Until recently, I was running against Abdul El-Sayed for U.S. Senate in Michigan.
But with the primary behind us, it's time to come together to win in November. That's why I gave Abdul my full endorsement as soon as the race was called.
Here's what's on the line in Michigan – Republican Mike Rogers is a former Congressman who sold Michigan out, made millions selling his influence to the same corporations he voted in favor of and took checks from while in office – like Big Pharma. He was one of the key architects of the PATRIOT Act – unleashing widespread government surveillance on Americans. And while he's trying to present himself as a middle-of-the-road Republican, he's flirted with Trump's lies about the election, dismissed Michiganders' concerns about rising costs, and will be nothing more than a rubber stamp for Trump's corruption and grift.
Michiganders can't afford it. And from the state that may decide control of the US Senate entirely, neither can the country.
This was a long and brutal primary. Take it from me – I lived it. But for all the differences we may have had in this primary, those differences pale in comparison to the stakes we face in November.
Donald Trump and Mike Rogers are counting on us staying divided. And national Republicans are already attacking Abdul in hate-filled new ads.
I thank the supporters of all of the Democratic campaigns this important election year. Thank you for volunteering, donating, and organizing. Thank you for pouring your heart and soul into these campaigns for almost two years.
Abdul and I share a lot. We care about a Senate that only confirms Supreme Court Justices that will protect the future of our kids. We care about getting corporate money out of politics. We care about putting more money into pockets. And unlike the Republicans trying to rip healthcare away from us, we care about everyone having healthcare.
Unity isn't just a slogan, it's already happening. Congresswoman Haley Stevens, Governor Gretchen Whitmer, Senator Gary Peters, the DSCC, and many Democrats across Michigan have united in endorsing Abdul. Hopefully, everyone will endorse soon because the stakes in November are just so high.
