Last week, I kicked off a tour of Red to Blue battleground districts by visiting Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, in support of Janelle Stelson.
Janelle Stelson is running in PA-10, a Central Pennsylvania community that includes the cities of Harrisburg and York. Janelle worked as a television journalist in Pennsylvania for more than three decades, including 26 years as an anchor at WGAL-TV.

For thirty years, the Central PA community relied on Janelle to tell the truth, trusted her to shine a light on problems, and counted on her to get answers and hold the powerful accountable.
In 2024, Janelle was the Democratic nominee in this district, and her campaign narrowly lost to Scott Perry by just about 4,000 votes. But 2026 is different. I know Janelle will be victorious. She’s putting in the work, knocking on doors, and forcefully communicating the damage Scott Perry has done to this community.
Perry is scared, you guys; folks are saying he is one of the most vulnerable congressional incumbents on the ballot in 2026. Because of all the hard work Janelle has been putting in in this district, it’s now rated a TOSS UP.
AND, this is one of the districts where the black voter turnout can determine the outcome of the election.
So, you can see why we were so excited to get on the ground. We are under 80 days until the election—folks are beginning to make their plan to vote. Let’s go!

9:30 AM:
I arrived at the airport excited to head to Pennsylvania’s 10th District, just a quick 1-hour 15-minute flight from Chicago! As we were coming in for landing, I could see all the lush farmland that reminded me of home.
I used the flight to catch up on the news, write thank-you notes, and watch an episode of the new Little House on the Prairie series on Netflix.
After the quick flight, we headed into the city to grab lunch. Our driver pointed out all the must-see spots in Harrisburg, including the beautiful State Capitol Building.
1:30 PM:
We grabbed a quick lunch at The Millworks. It serves local, farm-fresh, sustainable food while showcasing art from local artists across Central PA. They even lease studio space in the restaurant’s building out to artists, and sell their artwork in a shop right by the entrance.
It was a great place to start the day – shoutout to Team Stelson for the recommendation!
3:00 PM:
We then headed to an incredible back-to-school event hosted by five local Black-owned small businesses in Midtown.
Kids ran around, played on the blow-up bounce house, and families enjoyed the home-cooked food. Local businesses were present to share their services and goods, and we enjoyed chatting with the community.
Janelle and I spoke with local leaders and attendees about the issues they are facing right now in Harrisburg. We heard about housing concerns, rising grocery costs, and a lack of mental health resources.
It’s so important to show up for our communities, especially as they prepare to start another school year!
4:30 PM:
After the Back to School event, we walked across the street to the Stelson HQ office for a Black Community Leader Roundtable.
We were joined by activists, community leaders, church leaders, Divine Nine members, attorneys, and veterans engaged in their community.
Janelle and I responded to concerns about their Central PA community and the legislation championed by republican extremists in Congress.
Specifically, we heard about a need for after-school programs for school-aged children, the veteran homelessness epidemic, and how to get younger folks engaged in the electoral process.
We discussed the damage their Representative, Scott Perry, has inflicted on the district by voting against the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act, a new bipartisan law to boost the supply of affordable housing. These leaders were also very concerned about Rep. Perry’s vote in support of the Medicaid cuts in the Big Ugly Bill.
These Black community leaders were clear about the opportunity to flip PA-10, and because of Pennsylvania’s historic position as a swing state, they understood how their direct engagement could activate Black voters and change the direction of this country.
We left the conversation by giving these community leaders clear action items and ways to stay connected with the Stelson campaign. We need everyone to register to vote, make a plan to vote, and to vote for Janelle in PA-10!
6:00 PM:
After a great day on the ground, we headed back to Harrisburg International Airport, decked out in our Janelle Stelson for Congress T-shirts. The TSA Agents were cheering us on!
12:00 AM:
Made it back home to Naperville, still feeling fired up after our day in Harrisburg! Strong organizing powers winning campaigns, and Janelle is doing it right.
She is beloved in her community, a trusted advocate for Central PA families, and I have no doubt PA-10 will power Janelle Stelson to victory!!
