BJS Seeks Applications to Support the Consolidated National Criminal History Improvement Program (NCHIP) and the NCHIP Training and Technical Assistance Program

*BJS FY 2026 Consolidated National Criminal History Improvement Program*  

This opportunity seeks to provide grants to assist states, state court systems, territories, and federally recognized tribes under the NCHIP, the NCHIP Supplemental Funding under the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Act Record Improvement Program. Funds are used to improve the accuracy, utility, and interstate accessibility of criminal history and related records in support of national record systems and their use for name- and fingerprint-based criminal history background checks. 
 

*BJS FY 2026 National Criminal History Improvement Program Training and Technical Assistance Program* 

This opportunity funds training and technical assistance to support activities under the NCHIP, the National Instant Criminal Background Check System Act Record Improvement Program, and portions of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (P.L. 117–159). Direct technical assistance is provided to states, territories, and tribal jurisdictions to ensure that record systems are developed and managed to conform to FBI standards, ensure jurisdictions are using the most appropriate technologies, and adhere to the highest standards of practice with respect to privacy and confidentiality.  

Funding opportunities require a two-step submission process including two separate deadlines: 


* *Step 1*: Submit an SF-424 in Grants.gov [ [link removed] ]. The Grants.gov forms are due* *on *September 28, 2026, by 11:59 p.m. ET.* 

* *Step 2:* Submit the full application, including attachments, in JustGrants.usdoj.gov [ [link removed] ]. The full JustGrants applications are due* *on* October 5, 2026, by 8:59 p.m. ET.*
