The New York Times reports that “President Trump has directed federal officials to find ways to cut funding to a string of cities controlled by Democrats,” usurping Congressional power of the purse in a partisan attack that American mayors and governors have decried as blatantly against the law.
Governor Cuomo of New York has denounced Trump’s efforts to destroy New York as “political,” “gratuitous,” and “illegal,” while Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan stated simply, “It seems the only place where there is no respect for the rule of law is the White House.”
