Last Sunday, Republican Congressman Steve Scalise posted a fake video of Ady Barkan, a tireless advocate for justice who speaks with an artificial voice machine, manipulating it to literally put words in Ady’s mouth.

Members of Congress should not be spreading fake propaganda. Since Sunday, Scalise has been hit with an official ethics complaint, condemned by the Washington Post and New York Times, and called out by his colleagues - but instead of apologizing, he’s doubling down.

This is shameful - even for a Republican.

It is infuriating to see someone take advantage of Ady’s voice.

Ady has lost his ability to speak due to ALS. He now relies on assistive technology that translates his eye movements into language. He’s pushed through to speak at the DNC, and works harder than almost anyone to fix our healthcare system.

Congressman Steve Scalise’s video was so misleading, Twitter took the rare step of labeling the tweet as “manipulated media.”

Steve has been asked to apologize to Ady and the disability community multiple times now. He hasn’t. It’s time to take action and hold Scalise accountable for his misinformation agenda:
