“EXPLORING THE POSSIBILITIES” LACoFD 2026 FIRE EXPLORER PROGRAM ORIENTATION WEEKEND

WHAT:
Members of the media are invited to join the County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) this weekend for the 2026 Explorer Orientation.  Over the two-day event, more than 190 youth participants will receive rigorous, hands-on training including hose lay evolutions, ladder techniques, ropes and knots, breathing apparatus operations, and the proper use of emergency tools.

Designed for youth ages 15 to 20, the LACoFD Explorer Program introduces participants to careers in fire and emergency medical services. The program focuses on career development, positive mentoring, and civic involvement.

Media outlets will have access to dynamic visuals of active training exercises and opportunities to interview Department mentors and youth participants.

Following this mandatory orientation weekend, Explorers will continue their training through twice-monthly post meetings, monthly 12-hour ride-alongs, and community service initiatives.
