I don't have to tell you, friend, that restaurants are the lifeblood of NYC's economy, employing more than 300,000 people.
I'm sure you enjoy outdoor dining as much as I do. But as winter approaches, we can’t leave our restaurants out in the cold. Businesses are already struggling to pay their bills. Nearly every other industry has gotten guidance on how to reopen safely and according to health protocols. Except restaurants. The city has failed to provide any plan for the future of the restaurant industry, and they keep moving the goalposts on when a plan will be ready. That’s unacceptable.
That’s why I was joined by local restaurant owners to demand a plan from our city on the future of indoor dining. We are not demanding a full return to 100% capacity tomorrow. We know that we are still in the throes of a health emergency and we have to follow the best health and safety guidance we have. But we need a plan. It can’t just be our voices though — we need you to send a message to the mayor and the rest of City Hall to take action now to save our restaurants. We need a plan for the best and worst case scenarios to ensure the survival of the vibrant and essential restaurant industry in our city. That shouldn't be too much to expect from our city. Without it, the New York City restaurant industry will collapse. If we want our beloved restaurants to survive, we need to give them a plan NOW.
In Service,
Andrew
