John --
Donald Trump does not respect our men and women in uniform. He does not respect their families. He does not respect veterans. He called John McCain a "loser," he attacked a Gold Star family, he called veterans who disagree with him "human scum."
While Trump's latest comments are not surprising, they are deeply disturbing and yet another insult from this president to the heroes who sacrificed so much for our country.
If Matt Gaetz doesn't have the courage to stand up for those who sacrificed their lives for our nation, for our veterans, for those who wear the uniform, he is just as unfit to serve as Donald Trump.
As a U.S. Navy veteran who rose from Seaman to Commander over a 26-year active duty career that spanned the Cold War, Desert Storm, and post-9/11 operations, I know families who have lost loved ones in service to our country. We owe these families a debt we can never repay.
I have taken oaths of service under both Democratic and Republican presidents. And before Donald Trump took office, I never could have imagined a Commander in Chief who would insult, disparage, and belittle those who died to protect America.
But here we are. And Matt Gaetz is silent, unwilling to hold Donald Trump accountable and defend our military dead.
It's never mattered more to defeat Donald Trump and those, like Matt Gaetz, who are unwilling to stand up to him and do what is right for America.
Sincerely,
Phil Ehr
