1. NEBRASKA BECOMES THE THIRD STATE TO CERTIFY MEDICAL MARIJUANA FOR THE BALLOT

Nebraska will be one of three states in which voters will decide on a medical marijuana initiative this November. The other states voting on medical marijuana are Mississippi and North Dakota.

** 2. EIGHT PERCENT FEWER CANDIDATES ARE RUNNING FOR STATE LEGISLATIVE OFFICE IN 2020 VERSUS 2018

On Tuesday, we released our 10th annual state legislative elections competitiveness research, and we featured different highlights from the report throughout the week. A total of 12,280 major-party candidates are running in 2020, a 1,109-candidate decrease from last year.

** 3. BALLOTPEDIA IS TRACKING 21 LOCAL POLICE-RELATED BALLOT MEASURES IN NINE STATES

Of the 21 measures, seven are on the ballot in California while four will be voted on in Pennsylvania. The most common policy area linking the ballot measures was the duties and powers of police oversight boards.

** 4. 79.4% OF STATE LEGISLATIVE INCUMBENTS HAD NO PRIMARY OPPOSITION THIS YEAR

This year, 79.6% of incumbents ran unopposed and advanced to the general election without a primary challenge.
