Serving Pennsylvania's 2nd District

Friend,

On August 14, 1935, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed the single greatest anti-poverty legislation in American history – the Social Security Act. Social Security is a sacred promise that every American who was willing to work hard and contribute to their community deserves to live and retire with dignity.

91 years later, 23.5 million Americans are currently being lifted out of poverty thanks to Social Security. I am dedicated to upholding Social Security’s promise and ensuring your hard-earned benefits are protected for Americans who rely on it now, and for those who are counting on it to be available in the future.

Do you support my plan to protect Social Security by making the wealthiest Americans pay their fair share?

Unfortunately, Conservative leaders in Washington have even said they have a ‘plan’ to cut Social Security. If it’s anything like the plans I’ve fought against for years, this plan could mean cutting benefits for millions. These policies are wrong for working people – they would take away Americans’ hard-earned retirement benefits.

I have a better idea. I introduced the Medicare and Social Security Fair Share Act, which ensures Social Security remains fully funded indefinitely. This commonsense bill simply asks the wealthiest among us to contribute their fair share into the Social Security trust. Don’t just take my word for it – the independent actuaries for Social Security and Medicare have both determined my bill would protect benefits for all generations.

Every person who worked hard to support themselves and their family deserves to live and retire in dignity. I grew up in a working-class neighborhood in Philadelphia, and I know how hard our neighbors work to make that goal a reality. I won’t stop fighting to protect and uphold Social Security’s promise.

As always, if my office can help you or your neighbors in any way with a federal agency, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Sincerely,
