Violent Protests and the Postal Service Sham
Dear John
To call the past few weeks "eventful" would be an understatement. It seems as though every day there is a new problem, a new group of protesters turning violent, and a newfound political attack lobbed by the mainstream media. All of which adds to the general feeling of great frustration that is encompassing our nation. This week, I want to give you a few updates on what is happening in Congress and across the country.
Postal Service in the Spotlight
As I am sure you have heard on the news, Speaker Nancy Pelosi is leading a charge to pump $25 billion into the pockets of the Postal Service. Pelosi, along with Democratic leadership, wrote and passed a bill giving this lump sum to the USPS just a couple weeks ago. Now, you may be wondering what her reasoning is for doing this, and it's hard to believe any other motive than to strike fear into the hearts of Americans and make them think the election will be riddled with fraud unless we bailout the USPS. To be clear, the facts just don't line up with this narrative.
Pelosi's scare tactic is ridiculous for several reasons. First of all, Democrats have been trying to bailout the Postal Service for years, and even at the start of this pandemic Speaker Pelosi added a provision to one of the stimulus packages to bailout the debt of the USPS. Secondly, it has been widely reported and confirmed that the Postal Service has the funds to remain solvent and operational until August 2021, which blows to pieces her argument that it will collapse before November.
Finally, and most importantly, the Postal Service handles on average 471 million pieces of mail every single day. If we assume that 130 million people mail in their ballots this year (more than the total number of votes cast in 2016), that will only be 28% of what the USPS handles in a single day. Let's remember that mail in ballots will not all come in on one day, the process will take place over a matter of weeks, ultimately making the number significantly less for the Postal Service to handle on one given day.
So, as you can see, this concocted problem made up by Nancy Pelosi is a sham. There is no truth in it whatsoever, and it is just a ploy the Democrats are using to try and bolster support for themselves before November. Unfortunately, they have decided to stoop as low as this to try and win votes.
Violent Protests
Across the country we have seen a great number of protests taking place over the course of the last few months. While we hold near and dear to our hearts the First Amendment right to peaceably assemble, we have seen the exact opposite taking place in our nation's streets. Violent protests that have turned into rioting and looting are making waves around the United States. In Washington, D.C. the angry mobs are unrelenting, taking over streets and public areas. Just last week, Kentucky Senator Rand Paul needed several D.C. Police Officers to surround him as an angry mob threatened his safety while he walked to a hotel near the White House.
Additionally, you have probably seen on the news the riots in Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Louisville, and many other major cities taking place day and night, resulting in the destruction of cars, homes, and businesses. Worst of all, the protestors are taking their anger out on the people who are risking their lives to protect them: Police officers. Not one single thing about violent protests is acceptable, and the simple fact that the are encouraged by celebrities and left-wing politicians is sickening. I can only hope and pray that this violence ends as soon as humanely possible.
Holiday Weekend
Although there is a great deal of negative news swirling around the country, one bright spot is that Labor Day is approaching in the coming days. I sincerely hope that you are able to spend this long weekend with friends and family, enjoying quality time outside. The weather is supposed to cool down a bit, which will nice!
Sincerely,
