Dear John,
Nora, a mom who lives outside College Station, is proud that her son gets good grades and stays out of trouble in school.
It takes a lot to make that happen, including his hard work in class, effective teachers, and a loving family.
But it also takes three inhalers and a nebulizer. They help him manage his asthma so he can focus on school instead of worrying about catching his breath.
During a recent interview with our team, Nora told us that Medicaid covers the care her son needs to manage his asthma. It also covers visits to the family pediatrician and medical care for his sister's kidney disorder.
Nora gets her own health insurance through work, but she can't afford to add her children to her plan. She's grateful that Medicaid helps make sure they get the care they need.
To be sure, Medicaid hasn't been perfect. She can't find a nearby therapist or allergist for her son, and sometimes there are delays getting the care her family needs.
Families like Nora's shouldn't have to worry about whether their children can see a doctor, get the medications they need, or access the specialists who can help them thrive.
That's why Texans Care for Children advocates for policies that strengthen Medicaid, improve access to care, and help more children receive the health services they need to grow, learn, and succeed in school.
As children across Texas head back to the classroom this fall, will you make a Back to School gift to help protect the health care that keeps kids healthy, in the classroom, and ready to learn?
Your gift today helps power the advocacy that protects children's health coverage, strengthens programs like Medicaid, and gives more Texas kids the opportunity to thrive--not just on their first day of school, but throughout their lives.
No child should have to worry about catching their breath when they should be focused on learning.
Make your Back to School gift today and help Texans Care for Children fight for policies that give every child the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.
Your gift in action:
$50 - Strengthen Our Voice
$100 - Power Our Advocacy
$250 - Fuel Statewide Action
$500 - Champion Texas Kids
