Despite pressure in the AI space weighing on technology stocks, CrowdStrike Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ: CRWD) stands out as one of the most-upgraded stocks by analysts in recent periods. This makes sense: CRWD shares have nearly doubled year to date (YTD), and the company is benefiting from major partnerships with Amazon's (NASDAQ: AMZN) AWS and Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ: CBRS), among others. CrowdStrike is not only benefiting from the recent rotation back into cybersecurity but is likely a primary driver of that trend as well.
Despite the ratings upgrades, a consensus may be emerging among analysts that CrowdStrike's massive rally has left the stock overpriced. CRWD shares are about 13% above the consensus price estimate of $187.91, suggesting that some downside may be in store. Fortunately for investors, a range of AI cybersecurity and adjacent companies are positioned to find important niches in this evolving landscape without directly competing with CrowdStrike.

However, over time, the company has blurred the line between observability and cybersecurity because of the growing importance of telemetry in security applications. Datadog's platform now incorporates this telemetry into AI-based tools, helping provide cybersecurity as part of a broader infrastructure layer for AI operations.
DDOG shares have risen at nearly the same rate as CRWD this year, climbing 88% YTD. However, the stock dipped following its Q2 2026 earnings report—despite strong results, including 36% year-over-year (YOY) revenue growth and excellent free cash flow margins—potentially presenting a brief buying opportunity.
One important way Datadog differs from CrowdStrike is in analyst sentiment. Analysts expect substantial earnings growth to help fuel further upside going forward, representing a divergence in expected share-price performance compared with CRWD. With 40 Buy ratings, only four Holds and a single Sell, Wall Street is nearly unanimous in its positive assessment of Datadog.
The only true cybersecurity firm on this list is Qualys Inc. (NASDAQ: QLYS). Through its TotalAI platform, the company has expanded beyond tools that use AI technology to provide solutions designed to secure AI technology itself. Notably, Qualys is also integrating AI governance into its existing platforms, an added benefit that may appeal to customers transitioning into the AI space from other industries.
Qualys also recently reported a strong Q2 2026, including solid top- and bottom-line results, a substantial increase to its full-year revenue and earnings guidance, and growing adoption of several popular products. With $703 million in cash and a 46% adjusted EBITDA margin, the company's profitability profile is excellent. This should allow it to continue expanding while also pursuing opportunities to return value to shareholders.
Up 40% YTD, QLYS shares have exceeded analyst price predictions by about 9%. While this is not quite as much as CrowdStrike's gain above its target, it has prompted some caution on Wall Street. Investors who are convinced of Qualys' long-term growth trajectory and willing to ride out potential price corrections may be most interested.
Guidewire Software Inc. (NYSE: GWRE) is an unusual company to include on a cybersecurity list because its core business consists of software and cloud services for the insurance industry. Still, its emerging AI governance offerings represent a crucial trend: Insurers are increasingly relying on AI agents to handle underwriting, claims processing and other services, and Guidewire's new agentic framework helps ensure that these operations are secure.
While Guidewire is not providing cybersecurity solutions in the traditional sense, it signals a path forward that could be highly lucrative: Every enterprise that uses AI agents may need access to governance systems of this kind. The company's Qusar product may be transformative in this regard.
Separately, Guidewire's core business is performing well. The company's last quarter saw 27% YOY revenue growth and 19% growth in annual recurring revenue over the same period. A flurry of new cloud deals and success across multiple product lines point to demand for Guidewire's AI lineup. Perhaps best of all for investors, Guidewire has not yet been a major beneficiary of the cybersecurity rotation. Shares are down about 12% YTD, while the stock offers roughly 25% in potential upside and enjoys broad support from analysts.

These three infrastructure pure plays have successfully separated themselves from the broader market, transforming substantial capital access into validated enterprise contracts. Analyzing these three operational blueprints gives investors a framework for evaluating the structural integrity of the ongoing infrastructure transition.
CoreWeave (NASDAQ: CRWV) exemplifies the native infrastructure model. Operating with an estimated $100 billion revenue backlog, CoreWeave recently surpassed one gigawatt of active power. Execution at this scale requires reliable access to capital. Recent filings reveal CoreWeave burned through roughly $7.7 billion in capital expenditures in a single quarter, pushing net debt to approximately $21.8 billion.
Normally, carrying debt at more than seven times earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization would be a glaring red flag. Securing private debt financing from institutional players such as Blackstone (NYSE: BX) enables CoreWeave to bypass traditional banking constraints. The company is aggressively funding the thermal management and power hardware required to fulfill its backlog. For investors with a higher risk tolerance, CoreWeave operates as a high-beta growth engine in which preferential hardware allocation may outweigh traditional debt concerns.
Nebius Group (NASDAQ: NBIS) represents a pristine infrastructure builder. Free from the legacy technology debt weighing down traditional miners, Nebius Group is deploying high-density, energy-efficient clusters across Europe.
Institutional trust is highly evident at Nebius Group. In addition to a direct equity injection of about $2 billion from hardware manufacturers, Nebius Group secured a long-term capacity agreement with Meta Platforms (NASDAQ: META) that could trigger up to $27 billion in infrastructure spending. With net margins near 95% in the most recent quarter, Nebius Group is executing a highly profitable cloud strategy without the multibillion-dollar liabilities associated with retrofitting older facilities.
IREN Limited (NASDAQ: IREN) stands out as the clearest validated crossover model from crypto mining to hyperscale computing. Rather than acting solely as a hardware host, IREN integrated a proprietary software layer through an approximately $625 million software acquisition.
This software orchestration, combined with an estimated $1.6 billion strategic alliance with Dell Technologies (NYSE: DELL) to deploy accelerated servers, allowed IREN to secure around $2.8 billion in long-term contracts. Operating entirely on renewable energy gives IREN a structural advantage when bidding for environmentally constrained hyperscaler workloads, cementing its transition away from cryptocurrency volatility.
Appending high-performance computing to an investor presentation does not transform a legacy cryptocurrency mine into a Tier 4 data center. The market is increasingly littered with value traps: distressed operators attempting to adopt the artificial intelligence narrative without the necessary capital structure or engineering footprint.
Retrofitting basic air-cooled facilities to support enterprise-grade workloads requires billions of dollars in capital expenditures. When secondary operators attempt to finance this transition, they frequently resort to high-yield debt and severe equity dilution. Investors must look past headline-grabbing lease announcements and evaluate the cost of capital, which can ultimately render these superficial pivots structurally toxic to shareholders.
Applied Digital (NASDAQ: APLD) serves as a prime example of the cost-of-capital trap. Generating an estimated $36 billion lease backlog demonstrates undeniable demand for Applied Digital's facilities. However, executing the build-out is actively eroding equity value.
The Applied Digital balance sheet has come under severe strain as the company funds its pipeline, with total debt recently spiking to approximately $5.1 billion and financed through senior secured notes yielding nearly 7%. With an estimated $10 billion in pending capital expenditures still required to build out its 1.4-gigawatt load, severe equity dilution appears mathematically inevitable for Applied Digital. Securing demand offers little value to shareholders if the financing structure ultimately dilutes the equity to zero. Further compounding these operational hurdles, a recent insider transaction involving the Applied Digital chief financial officer highlights the persistent pressure on equity value.
HIVE Digital Technologies (NASDAQ: HIVE) highlights the dangers of the buzzword pivot. HIVE Digital Technologies rebranded to include the word “digital” and operates with a seemingly low debt-to-equity ratio of about 0.10, but its underlying infrastructure lacks the specifications required for enterprise artificial intelligence.
Subscale deployments in regions such as South America and severely negative trailing net margins point to deep operational inefficiencies at HIVE Digital Technologies, even before accounting for infrastructure upgrades. HIVE Digital Technologies recently issued $130 million in 0% exchangeable senior notes, signaling that the capital requirements for high-performance computing are forcing the company to take on additional leverage. Without the billions required to retrofit for liquid-cooled, high-density racks, HIVE Digital Technologies remains tethered to cryptocurrency prices rather than commanding infrastructure multiples.
The structural shift toward high-performance computing requires a discerning analytical approach. For legacy miners to successfully join the ranks of top-tier operators, they would likely need to secure nondilutive, behind-the-meter energy colocation agreements, divest legacy crypto assets to fund liquid-cooling retrofits and acquire proprietary cloud orchestration software.
Until those structural shifts occur, institutional money will ruthlessly separate legitimate cloud providers from distressed miners. Investors evaluating the space may want to add native infrastructure builders to their watchlists as they continue to lock in decade-long hyperscaler agreements, while remaining cautious of operators attempting to finance capital-intensive retrofits through dilutive debt.
